What is the difference between C13 power cord and shield cables?

What is C13 power cord?

The power cords are the important electrical components that provide a temporary connection as that of C13 power cord. This connection establishes between the appliance with these power cords plugged in the receptacle from one side. The other side of the power cord connects to any wall outlet present any where for the purpose of the connection.

If you are going to purchase a power cable, this article will help you understand the features and functions of the power cords. It will enable you to select the appropriate type of the power cord. It will also describe the different types of the power cables and the difference between them.

What is a standard power cable?

The standard power cable is the type of the power cable that operates at the voltage of 250 volts. There is a set of the standards for the manufacturing of these power cables by the international perspective. This set of international standards is IEC 60320.

As the different power cables may operate at the different conditions of the voltage and current. But the power cables that they manufacture on the base of the international standards, operate at the voltage of 250 volts. Therefore, the standard power cables have the specific set of the voltage and current to operate. It is irrespective of the range of conditions for the different countries.

What is the composition of the standard cord?

In the composition of the standard power cables, the number of the plug receptacle is usually even. Similarly, the number of the mating receptacle in these power cables is usually odd. Moreover, there is 1 additional outlet for the male power cable connector as compared to the female power connector.

There are different types of the standard cables that have the vast use for the connecting purposes. Usually the power cables that range from the C14 to C13 power cord and the power cables that range from C20 to C19 are the cables that have common use. The other common types of these power cables are C14 to C15 and C20 to C15.

What are the types of power cables?

The basic function of the power cables is to transfer and transmit the power to the electrical appliances. These power cables provide the power stations for the different electrical devices that need the power to work. There are different types of these power cables. Some of these types of the power cables are following.

What are Coaxial cables?

In the coaxial power cable, there is a core of copper and it has the dielectric insulator around this core material of the cable. The layer of copper is again present on the insulator sheath of the cable. Moreover, there is again a plastic sheath on this copper sheath that is outermost to the cable. There is a wide range of the coaxial cables. C13 power cord may has different layers as this.

The different types of the coaxial cables come due their features, capability to handle the power and other electrical properties. These cables have the most use in the devices that are common in the domestic purposes. The connection of the televisions, audio devices and video equipment are the common examples.

What are ribbon cables?

The ribbon power cable is not a single cable. It is actually a combination of the different cables to accomplish the function effectively. In the most cases, the ribbon cable consists of at least 4 cables and it can go up to 12 wires. These wires in the ribbon cable run parallel to each other to transmit the power to the electrical devices. C13 power cord may also have different number of the insulated wires.

These multiple wires in the ribbon cables are indication of the multiple signal’s transmission across them. The common use of the ribbon power cables is the connection of the motherboard with the other parts of the CPU. On the commercial scale, these power cables have the preferred and excessive usage in the network devices.

What are twisted pair cables?

The twisted pair cables are the type of the power cables that have the pairs of the copper wires. The number of the pairs of the copper wires can vary according to the condition and usage. The pairs of the copper wires have the color labelling. However, these copper wires twist around each other in order to fit effectively.

The diameter of these wires of the twisted power cables is different for the different cables. However, the common diameter of these copper wires ranges from 0.4 to 0.8 mm. Keep in mind that with the increase in the number of he pairs of the wires, the resistance of these cables also increases. The twisted pair cables are cost effective and easy to install.

What are shielded cables?

These power cables have the name as shielded cables due to the presence of the shield around them. These cables also have the insulated wires inside them. But there is a thick woven braid shielding around them. This shielding present around the insulated wires is the characteristic of these power cables. C13 power cord also has the shielding around them for the protection purpose.

However, the external shielding present around the wires has the important function of protection. It protects the signal in the cables from the interference of radio frequency signal and to move smoothly. Therefore, the shielded cables are of the prime use in the cases of the presence of the high voltage.

What is the difference between C13 and C14?

The C13 power cord and C14 power cable are two most important types of the connectors for the power cables. There are some difference and distinguishing features between them. The C13 has the structure for the mounting that is in the shape of the cable mount. On the other hand, the mounting style of C14 is in the shape of screw mount.

There are various configurations for the C13 power cables at the Interpower. In the most cases, there are five different configurations. Out of these five, the four configurations are angles and one is straight. The common use of these two power connectors is in the fields of medical equipment, the diagnostic centers and other domestic appliances.

What is the difference between C13 and C19?

C19 and C13 power cord are the two most common types of the power cable that have the tremendous usage in the network devices. They have the prime use in the computers, CPUs and other electrical devices. C13 is best for the usage in the PCs, laptops and monitors. The C19 is more important in the cases if we need more power applications.

However, with the increasing and demanding needs of the power, C19 represent the servers and power distribution units. This feature of these power connector is helpful to cope with the enhancing demands for the power applications.

What is the difference between C13 and C15?

C15 and C13 power cord connector are of the prime importance in the power applications. But there are certain differences in their structure and working. The most obvious difference is that C15 has a specific notch in its structure while C13 lacks it. However, there is a groove in the both cases of the connectors. The application of the C15 is also workable in the C16 outlets but C13 don’t work in this condition.
